Objective

As spelt out in its Memorandum of Association, the prime objective of NSFM is “to promote the development of Neurology and Neurosurgery in the Medical Services of Malaysia”. To be more precise, it means promoting the three (3) allied disciplines of Neurosciences, i.e. Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.

Strategy

1. To Work Closely

To work closely with the Ministry of Health in the training and education of Neurologists, Neurosurgeons and Psychiatrists besides other ancillary staff like Nurses and Assistant Medical Officers, by sending them to attend conferences, workshops and courses, locally and overseas, to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

2. To provide grants

To provide grants to local professional bodies such as Neurosurgical Association of Malaysia, Malaysian Psychiatric Association, Malaysian Society of Neurosciences, etc, to organise seminars/conferences/courses locally, for the benefit of local doctors and nurses.

3. To Sponsor

To sponsor renowned foreign medical specialists to conduct workshops and courses at locally-organised seminars, for the benefit of local doctors and nurses.

4. To Donate Medical Equipment

To donate medical equipment to the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery in government hospitals from time to time.

5. To Donate Foreign Medical Publications

To donate foreign medical publications on Neurosciences to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (library) for use as reference materials by Neurospecialists, nurses and other health professionals.

6. To Publish

Adipiscing tristique risus nec feugiat in fermentum.To publish booklets/pamphlets to educate the public in matters of prevention and medical care for Neurological disorders, such as Head Injury, Brain Tumour, Stroke, Migraine and Headaches, Depression and the like. To date, we have already published four booklets, two on “Epilepsy”, one on “Parkinson’s Disease” and one on “Stroke”, and distributed them to hospitals and Neurosciences’ societies for their use.

7. To Provide Grants

To provide grants to Neurosciences’ societies to conduct survey, collect data and carry out research on Neurological and Psychiatric disorders, like stroke, schizophrenia.

8. To Recommend

To recommend to the Ministry of Health on ways to develop and enhance the delivery of Neuro-services in the country.
